Acupuncture is Now an Essential Health Benefit in Oregon

We have some exciting news to share about insurance benefits for acupuncture. Legislation in Oregon was recently passed that designated acupuncture as an essential health benefit. Now all private insurers in the state of Oregon are required to include acupuncture benefits. Specifically 12 visits per year. Washington state has considered acupuncture an essential health benefit for several years now and we are excited that Oregon now does too.

What does this mean for you? If you have a Washington or Oregon private insurance plan, they are now required to offer acupuncture as a benefit. We have been busy this year verifying insurance benefits for our patients and we have verified that insurance benefits have increased for several of our patients. For example, one company only allowed 3 visits per year in prior years and at the start of 2022 this company now offers 12 visits per year! We are very excited to see expansion in acupuncture coverage in our state which helps to increase the accessibility of acupuncture.

In honor of the 12 acupuncture visits now covered, we’re sharing 12 conditions that we often treat with acupuncture.

  1. Back/Neck/Shoulder/Knee pain

  2. Muscle spasms

  3. Sprains and Strains

  4. Sciatica
