John Braide at Dynamic Acupuncture in North Portland

J (“Jay”) Braide

Licensed Acupuncturist

J (he/him) has thrived in the healthcare field for more than 20 years, specializing in painful and chronic, complex disease, and delving deeply into the root causes of disease, whether it be skin issues, digestive upset, or insomnia. And prior to obtaining his license in acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, he worked as a health care journalist and massage therapist.

  • J received his full Oriental Medicine Diplomate from the NCCAOM and the Institute of Classics in East Asian Medicine (ICEAM). While this level of education is not required in the State of Oregon for licensure as an acupuncturist, it shows advanced skill in the safe and effective prescription of Chinese herbs.

While many patient cases are straight-forward, our bodies, minds, and spirits can be unpredictable, and we are each different from one another in the same way that we each have our own DNA. Even simple injuries may be the result of a longer-lasting underlying condition that needs to be addressed as well. And, truly, the only way to approach a complex, living being is with humility, openness, persistence, and the belief that the body can do a tremendous amount of healing on its own when given the chance.  J incorporates pulse-taking, abdominal diagnosis, medical qigong and other modalities to do this.

A graduate from the American College of Oriental Medicine (ACTCM, 2001), J is now a Licensed Acupuncturist (LAc) in Oregon, and is certified in Shiatsu, Thai massage, and Chinese Orthopedic Massage. He has full training from the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association and has worked extensively with people with HIV, addiction, and mental health issues.

J enjoys music and literature and balances his career in Chinese Medicine with his creative endeavors as a novelist and playwright. J lives in Portland, Oregon with his husband of 29 years.

Abby Wollman

Licensed Acupuncturist

Abby (she/her) is a Southern California native who now calls the beautiful Pacific Northwest home. She is a licensed acupuncturist, Shiatsu practitioner, clinical herbalist, as well as Taichi and Qigong enthusiast. She enjoys helping her patients carve out a space of safety and healing away from the hustle-bustle of life, and prioritizes patient-centered, trauma-informed care as a means of doing so.

  • Abby is trained in both Classical Chinese and Japanese Acupuncture, a variety of bodywork techniques including Shiatsu, Sotai, myofascial release and visceral manipulation. She's also an advocate for community-centered health care and mutual aid, and has worked in a variety of healthcare related non-profits.

Abby volunteered with the non-profit Acupuncture Relief Project in Nepal, where she treated a wide range of patients with complex health conditions using acupuncture and Chinese medicine as primary care. She earned her Master's degree in Oriental Medicine here in Portland, Oregon at the National University of Natural Medicine, and is Nationally Board Certified as a Diplomat of Acupuncture through the NCCAOM and licensed with the state of Oregon.

Outside of her work handling needles as an acupuncturist, Abby's passion for sharp objects can also be seen in her pursuit of rock climbing on the abundant granite walls of the Pacific Northwest, and in her love of sewing (and crafting of all kinds).

Eleanor Jones

Licensed Acupuncturist

Eleanor (they/them) came to Portland over 20 years ago, fell in love with it, and has been here ever since, spending most of that time living in and around the Alberta Arts District, in North and Northeast Portland. It is important to Eleanor to bring their values into their practice, striving to create a nonjudgmental environment for their patients that does not pathologize choices and behaviors in a way that remains true to the roots of the medicine.

  • To this end, they use a variety of modalities including needles, cupping, and subtle but deep body work influenced by their studies in qigong tuina, myofascial release, cranio sacral and visceral manipulation as well as medical qigong.

While they are happy to be very gentle with sensitive patients, they also practice some sa’am and sometimes incorporate some orthopedic style needling, depending on the patient and what seems appropriate.

Eleanor found their way to Chinese Medicine through their qigong practice, which has been a transformative journey in its own right. It has become a huge influence on many aspects of their life. The more they are able to work with qi in their own body, the more they are excited about being able to influence qi in others for the purposes of healing, whether accessing it through an acupuncture needle or with their hands.

Eleanor graduated from the National University of Chinese Medicine here in Portland with a Masters of Chinese Medicine with a specialization in Chinese Herbal Medicine and they are board certified by the NCCAOM.

They have completed trainings in medical qigong and qigong tuina with Stephen Schleipfer and continue on their neigong journey with him.

When not practicing Chinese Medicine, you might find them practicing qigong, back packing or hiking, baking, connecting with their partner or friends, dancing, or just curled up with a good book and a cup of tea.

Don’t let pain, stress, or discouragement

keep you from living the life you want.

You can feel better. We’re here to help.
