Relieve Spring Allergies with Acupuncture

Springtime is arriving! While we welcome the days growing longer and the beautiful flowers blooming, many don’t welcome the seasonal allergies that also arrive with springtime. We are already starting to see people coming into the clinic with symptoms of seasonal allergies. Do you suffer from itchy watery eyes, sneezing, congestion, fatigue, or skin irritation when spring arrives?

Luckily there are some powerful and natural ways to both help manage these symptoms and prevent them if they haven’t arrived yet.

1. Acupuncture. Acupuncture is wonderful at both preventing seasonal allergies and helping manage allergy symptoms if they’ve already started. We recommend you’d ideally start acupuncture a month before your symptoms usually start, in order to prevent them from being severe. But even if your symptoms have already kicked in, acupuncture can still help a lot.⠀

Research shows that acupuncture is effective at reducing allergy symptoms with no side effects. Read More Here. In some studies acupuncture even performed as well or better than conventional therapies. The American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery recommends acupuncture as non-pharmacological therapy for allergic rhinitis.

2. Herbal Medicine or Supplements. We have some great options in the clinic for those who need a little extra help managing their allergy symptoms. Allergies can manifest in different ways for different people and we customize our recommendations to meet your individual needs. We have herbal formulas that help strengthen the immune systems making you less susceptible to environmental allergies. We also have herbal formulas and supplements that focus strongly at reducing congestion, helping you breathe deeply again. One of our popular supplements contains bromelain, which studies have shown demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects for allergic rhinitis. Read more here.

3. Lifestyle approach. Prioritizing sleep and eating a whole foods diet is foundational for a strong immune system. You can also minimize environmental irritants in your home by using a HEPA air filtration system, using the highest quality air filters for your furnace, changing bed linens frequently, and using a vacuum with a HEPA-filter.

If you’ve noticed allergy symptoms starting or if you’re ready to get ahead of them coming on this year, we’re here to help!
