Dietary Tips for Immune Support

Immune support is top of mind these days with many heading back to school and the approach of fall. Did you know that there are many natural ways to help support your immune system? This is part one of our blog series for our immune support recommendations with ideas that you can incorporate into your daily life!

Food choices play a foundational role in supporting wellbeing and are a key component in keeping our immune systems strong. Dietary therapy is a wonderful way to add immune supportive nutrients to your daily life. We’ve compiled a list of food sources for the top nutrients that support immune wellbeing. Here are our favorite food and supplement choices to support a healthy immune system.

Food Therapy and Supplements for Immune Support

  • Vitamin C
    Orange, lemon, kale, mustard greens, kiwis, broccoli, brussels sprouts, strawberries
    (We recommend that you steam, roast or grill your greens to maintain nutrients!)
    *Avoid grapefruit for many prescription medications, check with your doctor or pharmacist

  • Zinc
    Shellfish – oysters, crab, shrimp, mussels
    Legumes – chickpeas, lentils, beans (better if soaked, cooked or sprouted)
    Nuts and Seeds – cashews, pumpkin seeds, almonds, sesame seeds, pine nuts
    Whole Grains – whole wheat, brown rice, quinoa, oats
    Animal Protein - beef, pork, chicken

  • Herbs and Spices

    Thyme, parsley, rosemary, garlic and ginger

    (Add these to your meals or use as a garnish)

  • Vitamin D
    Work with your Primary Care Provider to test levels regularly
    Supplement if low (often required when living in the Pacific Northwest)
